| The Kitchen Sink.... Please read the following before deciding whether to purchase a Flight Deck for your bird. Safety isn't always convenient but we have tried to make it easy. The Flight Deck offers opportunities and experiences that may be new to your bird, there will be a learning period. With new adventures come new risks, we have tried to anticipate them all (if you think of any we haven't, please let us know so that we might include them). We want all birds to have a wonderful, interesting and adventurous life balanced with a careful regard for their safety. With that in mind, please carefully peruse the following: Caution: The Flight Deck is an activity and foraging platform for flighted birds, it is not intended for use by children or for any other purpose. Caution: To safely suspend the Flight Deck you must carefully follow the installation instructions provided or hire a licensed contractor to install your Flight Deck. Caution: The Flight Deck is designed to have some movement when suspended. It is intended to move as your bird lands on, and moves about playing on, the Deck. Be certain to balance the weight on both sides and both ends of the Flight Deck. When choosing a location to hang the Flight Deck, check the full swing to ensure that, when in motion, it will not collide with walls, windows, doors or objects. For your birds comfort and health, do not place the Deck in drafty locations such as under or adjacent to heating and cooling vents. If placing in front of a window, ensure that when the Deck is in full motion it will not come in contact with the glass. If you open the window please be aware that common window screen is not a barrier for any parrot. Caution: The Flight Deck, with your bird(s) and all accessories that you add, should not exceed the total weight limit listed for the size. Be certain to balance the weight on both sides and both ends of the Flight Deck. Caution: Supervision and monitoring are necessary to ensure that the structural integrity of the Flight Deck is not being compromised. Links have been added so that you can take the Flight Down for inspection. Inspect the Flight Deck often. If your bird chews around the wood and dowel that suspends the Flight Deck it may fall and injure your bird, others or damage property. If your bird chews through any area of the structure in a way that compromises the structural stability of the Flight Deck, it is time to take down or replace the Flight Deck. Failing to do so may result in injury, death or damage.
Caution: The Flight Deck is designed for birds that are able to fly. If your bird cannot fly up at least 3 feet AND fly safely to the ground, you should not put your bird on the Flight Deck. Until your bird is competent at maneuvering on and about the Flight Deck, continual supervision is advised. Be certain that your bird can move from the items you have suspended to the top of the Flight Deck and to food and water sources before leaving your bird unsupervised. No toy or bird item is completely safe. As with any toy, different birds require different levels of supervision.
Caution: Do not submerge the Flight Deck or the Foraging Bowls in water. Wood is a natural and pourous product, do not use detergents or chemicals to clean the Flight Deck as they may absorb into the wood. Use a damp nylon scrubbing pad to clean the Flight Deck. We recommend sunshine as a natural disinfectant, place out of the way of wild bird droppings or the chance of encountering pesticides or other hazardous chemicals. Caution: The foraging bowls are constructed of wood and are intended for dry foods such as seeds, nuts, pasta, pellets, dried fruits etc. and a place for foot toys, foraging items and foraging toys. Do not put wet foods in these bowls. Routinely inspect top side bowls and hanging bowls for damage. When installing the bowls on the top of the smaller decks make sure they are firmly seated on the dowel they insert into. If you think your bird may try to remove them, secure them with a small piece of bird safe leather (1/4" diameter) inserted through the small dowel hole located on the dowel protruding from the bottom of the bowl; snuggly knot the leather on both ends close to the dowel. If you remove the top side bowls we suggest that you do not leave the hole vacant. You can fill it with a large knot of bird safe leather or rope on both ends of the dowel opening. Additionally, If you are not going to suspend items from each of the links designed for that purpose, we recommend that you use tight bird safe leather knots to close up the links you leave vacant. Caution: Here are questions to frequently consider to ensure continued safety: • If my bird leaves the Flight Deck, is the area safe for him/her? • Does my bird have unfettered access to food and water? • Are there places for toes or my bird to get caught? • Are there items in reach of my bird(s) that are unsafe? • Is the Flight Deck support system, from Deck to ceiling, securely intact? • Are there areas of the Flight Deck that are being severely chewed? • Are the items on top of the Flight Deck safely and securely fastened? • Is the Flight Deck, and items attached, in a clean and safe condition?
